Dr. Michael Brown: Why I Would Never Attend a Same-Sex Wedding
During a Q&A at Liberty Church in Fairfield, California, Dr. Michael Brown said he would not in good conscience be able to attend a same-sex wedding. He said he would not attend for the same reason he would not attend an adulterous brother’s wedding: “I would not want to be affirming.”
His remarks came in response to a question from an audience member, who asked, “One of my former co-workers who knows that I’m a Christian recently invited me to her upcoming wedding to her girlfriend. I’m a bit hesitant attending her wedding because I know it’s not God’s best for her. I’ve shared the love of Christ to her in the past, and she’s opened up to me about how she grew up a Christian and felt like she’s far away from God since she’s living a homosexual lifestyle. Is there still a way for me to attend her wedding and still show the love of Christ in the process?”
Brown told the question-asker to pray and seek God’s will to find out the answer for that specific situation. Then he added, “I could not go in good conscience, because the goal is to be a witness and to celebrate. To go is to applaud and to smile when the couple kisses, and to be there and say ‘We’re so happy for you,’ right?”
