Scholar: This Is Where Christians Go Immediately After Dying

Scholar Ligon Duncan says that just as Paul says, “to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Phil. 1:21, ESV), we will gain much joy from being in the presence of God upon death. The hope of eternity with Him gives us peace on this earth now, while we suffer through various trials.

“What’s so important for Christians to understand now is that we go immediately to the presence of Christ [after dying],” Duncan says. “It’s important for comfort in the wake of a death of a loved one.”
