Rocker Alice Cooper slipped into the role of Herod for NBC’s Jesus Christ: Superstar! performed live last night.

“Jesus, I am overjoyed to meet you face to face,” Cooper taunted Christ, played by John Legend.

Cooper, a renowned Christian, continues with “Herod’s Song,” while Legend kneeled before him.

You’ve been getting quite a name all around the place./Healing cripples, raising from the dead.
And now I understand you’re God,/ At least, that’s what you’ve said.

So, you are the Christ, you’re the great Jesus Christ./ Prove to me that you’re divine; change my water into wine.
That’s all you need do, then I’ll know it’s all true./ Come on, King of the Jews.
Jesus, you just won’t believe the hit you’ve made around here./ You are all we talk about, the wonder of the year.

Cooper previously told Rolling Stone about his role.

“Wouldn’t you know that they would give me the part of the villain?” Cooper says. “When this opportunity came across, they said, ‘Hey, why don’t you be in Jesus Christ Superstar?’ And I said, ‘I’m either Judas or Herod, right?’ And they said, ‘Herod.’ I said, ‘OK, I knew that was coming.'”
