Pastor Tony Evans Embraces New Chapter With Engagement Announcement
Renowned pastor Dr. Tony Evans, the leader of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship (OCBF) in Dallas, has revealed his engagement to Dr. Carla Crummie, marking a significant chapter in his life nearly four years after the loss of his beloved wife, Lois.
This heartfelt announcement, made during a recent OCBF service, calls for the congregation’s prayers during what Dr. Evans describes as a “sensitive time.”
Dr. Evans, an influential figure in the Christian community, author and seasoned speaker, turned to his faith and the support of his family as he shared this deeply personal news. Addressing the congregation on September 10, he acknowledged the poignant milestone approaching the fourth anniversary of Lois’s passing, his cherished wife of 49 years. His children, Priscilla Shirer, Jonathan Evans, Anthony Evans Jr. and Crystal Evans Hurst, stood by their father’s side as he made this heartfelt announcement.
“We are a very close family,” Dr. Evans acknowledged, “and all that has happened in my life, family, church, Urban Alternative, books, tapes, everything, has been defined by [Lois], so we’ve had over these four years the ups and downs and the roller coaster of emotions, sometimes high, sometimes low, but it comes with it.”

Dr. Evans, reflecting on the challenges he has faced, also acknowledged the global hardship of the pandemic, which coincided with the loss of his wife. He expressed gratitude for the support received from those who have shared in his family’s grief during these trying times.
Amidst the ups and downs of singlehood, Dr. Evans shared that God, in His sovereignty, has brought someone new into his life—Dr. Carla Crummie. Dr. Evans continued, revealing that Carla had experienced a similar journey of loss. “This is someone who has traveled this similar road. In fact, she and her husband were on their way to Lois’ funeral when her husband died.”
Dr. Evans, known for his transparency in sharing life’s challenges with his congregation, wanted to introduce his new fiancée to the OCBF family. “As I’ve tried to share the ups and downs of my life with you,” he explained, “I wanted to share this and give you the opportunity to meet my new fiancée, Miss Carla Crummie.” The congregation responded with standing ovations and heartfelt applause.
Acknowledging the sensitivity of this moment, Dr. Evans implored the congregation to be mindful of the grief that still lingers. “During a time like this, you are also reminded of loss,” he said. “And so I want your sensitivity as you pray for me as we walk through this journey, as she walks through the grief that she’s had to walk through.” He recounted the profound personal losses both he and Dr. Crummie have endured, highlighting the challenges they have faced.
Dr. Evans requested the congregation’s prayers and understanding. “Just pray for us,” he humbly asked. “This may, it’s already invoked some grief in some people, which I can understand because we’re reminded about the fingerprints. The one thing I’ve appreciated about Sister Carla is that she has held Lois Evans high in honoring her legacy here.” {eoa}
