Franklin Graham Calls Out ‘Depraved Sexual Activists’ Changing Laws
Charlotte’s recent vote to allow transgender people to use the restroom of the gender they identify with garnered outrage from prominent Christian leaders, including evangelist Franklin Graham.
“It should be inconceivable that Charlotte’s mayor and the supporting City Council members have succumbed to the pressures from depraved sexual activists and are willing to put women and girls at risk like this,” Graham said before the vote.
Despite protests, the Charlotte City Council approved the nondiscrimination ordinance, 7-4, according to the Charlotte Observer. The measure failed last year.
“The ordinance was defeated last year, and the mayor shouldn’t have allowed it back on the table. Shame on her. This is why it is so important that Christians get involved in the political process across our country by running for office and by voting.”
Despite the City Council’s vote, North Carolina Speaker of the House told the Charlotte Observer lawmakers will take actions to “correct this radical course.”
Gov. Pat McCrory numbers among those who oppose the legislation.
“This shift in policy could also create major public safety issues by putting citizens in possible danger from deviant actions by individuals taking improper advantage of a bad policy,” McCrory said. “Also, this action of allowing a person with male anatomy, for example, to use a female restroom or locker room will most likely cause immediate state legislative intervention, which I would support as governor.”
Graham and leaders like Dr. Michael Brown vocalized their support for other state leadership in taking measures against to reverse the ordinance.
“I hope they will take swift action to strike down this dangerous ordinance or bring it to a referendum for voters to decide. If this were put to a vote in Charlotte, I’m sure it would be overwhelmingly defeated by Democrats and Republicans alike,” Graham said.
