Poll: 30 Percent of Americans Don’t Think Hillary Clinton Would Survive Her First Term

A new poll out from left-leaning Politico and Morning Consult is definitely not good news for the Hillary Clinton campaign.

Attempting to determine the opinion of a majority of Americans following the Democratic presidential nominee’s “medical episode” last weekend at the 9/11 memorial service in New York City, and the results couldn’t have been clearer. For starters, half of those polled think she is lying about her health condition.

Worse yet, nearly a third think that even if she were elected in November, she wouldn’t survive her first term in office. The long bright spot: only 44 percent believe her health condition would interfere with her ability to perform the duties of president.

Meanwhile, just 22 percent of those polled believe Clinton’s health is “above average or excellent.” Nearly twice as many—36 percent—said the same of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who would be the oldest president ever, if elected.

Only 20 percent of those polled thought Trump would be unable to complete his first term in office. Additionally, 63 percent of Americans believe he’s been honest about his general health to the public.

If so many Americans are concerned that Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump would be unable to complete a full four-year term in office, the pollsters asked if they felt the candidates’ respective vice presidential running mates—U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence—were ready to step in, if needed.

Again, it was bad news for the Clinton campaign. While 43 percent said they believed Pence was ready to serve, only 38 percent could say the same about Kaine.
