FRC Aims to Stop the Democrats’ Filibuster

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins sent out an action alert Monday afternoon, telling supporters the current Supreme Court vacancy “presents our nation with a critical decision and we have no time to waste.”

He said the confirmation of 10th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Neil Gorsuch is “essential” because he will respect the Constitution and not legislate from the bench. With his confirmation vote due to happen sometime later this week, Democrats led by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) are attempting an unprecedented filibuster to block that vote.

FRC has set up a petition to urge senators to vote in favor of the judge’s confirmation.

“Judge Gorsuch has a strong conservative record and has demonstrated respect for limited government and the rule of law. He understands the frustration with judicial activism and has even stated so in his confirmation hearings saying:

If judges were just secret legislators, declaring not what the law is but what they would like it to be, the very idea of a government by the people and for the people would be at risk.

It is essential that this obstruction and filibuster be brought to an end. And that’s why I’m asking you to stand with us as we urge the U.S. Senate to do just that. We must give this everything we’ve got and stand united.”
