The Best TV Couples From the Last 65 Years

From flowers to chocolate to red hearts to red hots, there are plenty of classic ways to celebrate this Valentine’s Day.

This year the Parent’s Television Council (PTC) showcases T.V’s favorite on-screen couples from the last 65 years to show how it’s done.

“It is important that we see healthy relationships being represented on television because it tells us something about the health of our relationships in our culture,” said Melissa Henson, program director of the organization.

Henson says marriage is not presented respectfully on television and that you rarely find a faithful, loving marriage on screen.

“You are more likely to see a fair treatment of an adulterous relationship on television,” she said.

Couples like Fred and Wilma, from The Flintstones, and Carol and Mike Brady, from the Brady Bunch, are some of the on-screen couples that exemplify marriage values.

The Flintstones proved “that a couple that works together, stays together. The two balanced each other, with Fred being the neurotic one, and Wilma the calmer spirit,” PTC said of the couple. Carol and Mike “showed viewers that with a lot of love, a blended family can work. Both came into the marriage with three children of their own, and we watched as they made it work despite the obstacles.”

Henson says that although the couples aren’t perfect, there is a common thread.

“They work through their problems and at the end of the day they stay committed and they stay together.”
