A True Miracle: NFL Coach Saves Drowning Child
The mother of young Wyatt Stanley is praising God after Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris was “directly where” he “needed to be” to rescue her drowning son.
Morris, 46, was vacationing with his family at the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas when he jumped to action after seeing the 3-year-old boy drowning in the hotel pool, according to ESPN.
The DC’s wife, Nicole, said Wyatt had no pulse when he was taken out of the pool and carried over by his father to a nearby lifeguard. All this after Wyatt’s father, Joe, was alerted by their 7-year-old son that his little brother was “face down at the bottom of the pool.”
It was when Morris saw the lifeguard beginning to perform chest compressions on the child that he ran over to see if he could help.
“I saw people calling 911, so my first question was: where is the AED?” Morris told ESPN, referring to an automatic external defibrillator. “When I got back, we had a doctor on site that was able to start the compressions. I was able to hand the AED to him, get it open for him, put the pads on the child, and he ended up being OK.”
At the same time, Dr. Andrew Oleksyn, an emergency medicine physician, was also there. He ran to get the AED after the Rams coach mentioned it.
“I’m just thankful I knew what to do,” Morris said. “You just never know when you’re going to need that stuff.”
