Sen. Warnock Deletes ‘Heretical’ Easter Tweet Amid Backlash

Yesterday, Christians across the globe celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the event that split eternity and brought salvation to all those who believe in His name.

But Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., senior pastor of Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, wrote in an Easter tweet that “The meaning of Easter is more transcendent than the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Whether you are Christian or not, through a commitment to helping others we are able to save ourselves.” Conservative attorney Jenna Ellis and websites such as mediaite.com captured the shocking statement before Warnock deleted it after receiving massive backlash.

Author and podcast host Allie Beth Stuckey posted a series of tweets in response to Warnock’s, beginning with the statement that “there is nothing more transcendent than the resurrection of the God-man, Jesus”:

Author Marcus Milam rebuked Warnock for using “Easter to deemphasize the resurrection of Christ” and “teach the doctrine of self salvation”:

And a Baptist pastor used a tweet to offer some sardonic encouragement to his fellow pastors:

Warnock’s defendants also took to Twitter, either defending him or noting that they found nothing wrong in his comments:
