Historic Congress Set to Sweep South Africa

A historic gathering is set to sweep into South Africa this spring as Empowered21 welcomes leaders and laypeople from the Spirit-empowered movement for its Empowered21 African Congress, May 16-19, 2018.

“This is going to be a landmark event,” said Dr. Billy Wilson, President of Oral Roberts University and the Global Co-Chair of Empowered21. “The Holy Spirit has long been at work in Africa and around the world, and all of us at Empowered21 are looking forward with anticipation at what He will do in and through this historic gathering.”

Open to all, but geared especially for Spirit-empowered Christians who reside on the African continent but attracting those from around the globe, the event will be a time of intergenerational blessing and impartation.

“This is a historic time for Africa,” said Rev. Frank Chikane, Co-Chair of the Empowered21 Africa Regional Cabinet. “We welcome the world to join us as we seek to fan the flames of the Holy Spirit and encounter the Lord at this Congress.”

Over 30 prominent global and African leaders, pastors, ministers and musicians will be arriving in Johannesburg to serve and network with other African leaders. All African Spirit-empowered pastors, volunteers and leaders—including youth, women’s and children’s ministry leaders—are invited to attend.

“We know that a new day is dawning on the continent,” said Rev. Opoku Onyinah, another Co-Chair of the E21 Africa Regional Cabinet. “For two years we have been praying that God would use this four-day Congress to raise up the next generation of Spirit-empowered leaders throughout Africa.”

Empowered21 has identified ten crucial areas of focus for the African church in the 21st century: evangelism, women’s ministry, theological scholarship, discipleship, children’s ministry, advocacy and prophetic leadership, prayer networks, humanitarian aid and disaster relief, Christian business networking, and the Next Generation Youth Network. These diverse areas will be the focus of breakout sessions during the African Congress.

There will also be two additional special sessions on reaching people with disabilities and deliverance and prophetic ministry challenges.

In attendance will be a wide array of ministry leaders from around the world, including William Wilson (president, Oral Roberts University), George Wood (chairman, World Assemblies of God Fellowship); Opoku Onyinah (president, Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council) and Frank Chikane (president, Apostolic Faith Mission International); Michel Ouédraogo (president, Burkina Faso Assemblies of God); Dave Burrows (senior pastor, Bahamas Faith Ministries International); Omar Cabrera (senior pastor, Vision de Futuro Church); Ishmael Charles (Caribbean Field Director, Church of God); Edward Grabovenko (head bishop, Russian Church of Evangelical Christians); Wayne Hilsden (president, Fellowship of Israel Related Ministries); Rob Hoskins (president, One Hope); Cindy Jacobs (founder, Generals International); Daniel Kolenda (president, Christ for All Nations); Ron Luce (global youth strategist, Generation Next); Gordon McDonald (head bishop, Pentecostal Holiness Church in Canada); and Nick Park (national bishop, Church of God in Ireland) and many others.

The African Congress will be hosted at Word & Life Church. Detailed registration information is available via email at [email protected], or online at empowered21.com/johannesburg, or by searching Facebook for “E21Africa.”
