Church of God Makes Urgent Call for 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting
Beginning Jan. 10, 2015, Church of God Prayer Ministries is calling for 21 days of prayer and Fasting for revival in the church and awakening in the nation.
Imagine a nation-wide virtual prayer meeting. Everyone is at home, but connected, in prayer for the nation and the nations, for 21 days. Praying together, separately, this is a first of a kind for Church of God Prayer Ministries.
This year, a 21-day prayer virtual experience has been added to the prayer effort. Each night, from 10 PM EST to Midnight, participants can gather for a virtual prayer meeting. The call will be offered via audio only through Free Conferencing.
On the first night, General Overseer Dr. Mark Williams will launch the endeavor. Each night, a different state and nation will be the focus of the prayer time, led by the administrative bishop or the state prayer leader—though anyone from any part of the world may join any or all of the calls. Each night, the host will present various topics as a focus for prayer—and times of free intercession. Via the internet, for those who are able to join the call online, notes may be posted and sent to others on the call. The prayer guide for the evening will be visible.
Each evening, from 10:50–11:10 PM EST, the focus of the call will turn to the nations. The FINISH Challenge will guide the World Missions segment of the call—prayer for missions, missionaries, unreached people groups, the nations and the global harvest. Missionaries are invited to send special reports and needs to [email protected] to be included as a prayer focus for the call.
“The goal is: prayer. United prayer. Fervent prayer. A nation, and the nations, joined in prayer,” stated Doug Small, head of Church of God Prayer Ministries.
Dr. Peggy Scarborough is coordinating the effort. Scarborough is a radio host, author, and serves as chair of the Prayer Commission for the Church of God in South Carolina. She also serves as the South Carolina director of Cry Out America, and regional coordinator of the Governor’s Prayer Teams across six states.
“Imagine—voices crying out to God, from California and then Florida, from the heartland to the fringes of the nation,” Small continued. “Imagine the view from heaven—believers separated by some distance, but not in their hearts, not in their desire for the nation, all uniting around the throne in heaven.”
“Prayer knows no distance—and it knows no time. Answers come before we pray, and yet, in the mystery of God’s ways, prayer is necessary. One prays here, another there, in the Spirit, they agree—and heaven acts in accord with their prayer, but on the other side of the earth. Prayer is a mystery, but there is no mystery in this. God is calling his people to pray!”
