Cher Compares Donald Trump to Hitler
Comparing Republicans to despots, dictators and bloodthirsty evil tyrants has long been a staple of the Democratic Party electoral playbook.
But during a fundraising for her friend, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Cher pulled out all the old stereotypes. Then, while describing Clinton’s Republican counterpart, Donald Trump, the so-called “Goddess of Pop” unfurled a few more of her own.
“I just think he’s a [expletive] idiot,” the Academy Award and Grammy Award winner said. “I was thinking despots—Stalin, Hitler—even though they said the same things, we’re going to make Germany great again, and it was at a time when the Deutsch mark I think was at 25 cents …
“He’s so Patty McCormack. Consummate liar, doesn’t care who she hurts, insane, and you know, sociopathic narcissist. I just wish he’d fall off the face of the earth.
“I believe in [Clinton] so much. I know that if [Trump] got into office, it would be the worst place, I don’t think we could even imagine how bad it could get … I think if breaking news ever happened and he had to go the podium, we would just all go, [expletive].”
The comments drew enthusiastic applause from the audience of big-money Clinton donors at the Pilgrim Monument and Museum on Cape Cod. Those in attendance included former tennis player Billie Jean King, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile, and Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey.
The event reportedly raised $1.5 million for Clinton’s campaign.
