Embattled Congressman Conyers Calls It Quits Amid More Sexual Harassment Claims

Share:

Plagued by allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct by multiple women, U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., announced Tuesday that he is retiring after 52 years in office.

The announcement comes after yet another woman brought forth a sexual allegation against the 88-year-old congressman.

Conyers said last week that he wouldn’t be pressured into resigning after House Minority Leader and other Democrats called on him to quit. At that time, the Washington Examiner reported, Conyers had denied the multiple allegations against him.

CBN News reported Tuesday that Elisa Grubbs says she worked for Conyers from 2001 to 2013. During that time, Grubbs says, Conyers touched her inappropriately many times, including when she sat next to him during church and that other staffers had “witnessed the event.”

CBN also reported that Grubbs says witnessing such harassment “was a regular part of life while working in the office of Rep. Conyers.”

Conyers is endorsing his son, John Conyers III, to replace him in Congress. {eoa}
