House Overwhelmingly Shoots Down Trump Impeachment Measure

A group of House Democrats failed in its efforts to move forward with impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump when the House vehemently defeated the measure Wednesday.

Forced to a vote by Texas’ Al Green, the measure was defeated 364-58. All 58 votes for the measure came from Democrats.

Green described Trump as someone associated with white nationalism and neo-Nazism, and a bigot whose incitement of hatred “makes him not fit to lead,” Politico reported Wednesday.

“Donald John Trump, by causing such harm to society of the United States, is unfit to be president and warrants impeachment, trial and removal from office,” Politico reported Green said from the House floor Wednesday.

Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, both of whom have been extremely vocal in their opposition to Trump since his election last November, surprisingly said in a joint statement that although they were in favor of Green’s resolution, “now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment.”

Green listed several reasons for attempting to move forward with impeachment against Trump, but the White House quickly dismissed Green’s narrative. The administration labeled Green and his allies as “extremists.”

Impeachment requires a simple majority vote of the House and then the Senate serves as a jury to hear the case with a two-thirds vote required for removal from office.

Only two presidents have ever been impeached: Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Neither was convicted by the Senate. {eoa}
