Washington D.C. will be abuzz today with generations taking up the charge against abortion. Not only will thousands gather for the March for Life, the House will vote on the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Act.
For faith activist Janet Porter, the bill is not enough. She’s encouraging Congress to pass the heartbeat bill, as well.
“The time to end abortion is now because we have a bill before congress has more pro-life support than any other pro-life bill,” Porter tells Charisma News. The born alive bill does not prevent abortion, but would prohibit doctors from killing a baby who survived an abortion the first time.
On the other hand, Porter says the heartbeat bill has 170 cosponsors and a majority of congressional support. Seven out of 10 voters in America favor the bill, according to a 2017 George Barna Study
“There is no reason to wait [to pass the heartbeat bill],” Porter says. “It’s supported by Americans and just makes sense. A heartbeat is life. We check for a pulse [when someone is hurt] because the heartbeat is indicator of life. That’s the message.”
She continues: “This is the bill that will be the arrow in the heart of Roe v. Wade. Everything is set to come to vote. The establishment has prohibited it, saying it’s something we don’t need to do now. The [Born Alive Act] will move us millimeters down the field, not get us up to the goal.”
While Porter and others are inside in D.C., awaiting the House vote, thousands will rally in the streets around the capital to let their voices be heard.
There is a spiritual war happening for the lives of the unborn, and today is an opportunity to strike major blows against the enemy.

Christians are all too often known as a people of “no” and “don’t,” when in reality, we should be most famous for the “yes” of God in our lives. The March for Life is an important event that reaffirms God’s “yes:” over all human life, at all stages and ages, starting at conception. I for one am here today because a woman named Charlene McDaniel decided to say yes to my life when she was a young, single mother who got pregnant out of wedlock.
Just the other day a young, single woman came up to me holding her beautiful 20-month old daughter. When she was pregnant, she had planned to get an abortion, but then heard me speaking on the radio where I mentioned that abortion was wrong. By the end of the program, she prayed and asked Jesus to forgive her and come into her heart. She decided to have her baby. She was so glad she did.
In America, we’ve been living with Roe v. Wade for 45 years now, and approximately 60 million preborn babies have been lost their lives as a result. Let’s join together, all across this nation, in solidarity with our brothers and sisters marching in Washington, and collectively as a nation say “yes” to God once again.

National Sanctity of Human Life Day is a deeply meaningful, yet solemn date on our national calendar. As President Ronald Reagan once said, it is “the first of the ‘unalienable rights’ affirmed by our Declaration of Independence,” and yet, since 1973, the killing of unborn babies through nine months of pregnancy has been legal in this country for any reason, or no reason at all. It is a grievous tragedy of incalculable size and scope. Forty-five years later, more than 58 million preborn babies have been murdered in hospitals and clinics all across our land.”
To our collective shame, when the Supreme Court first handed down its decision on Roe v. Wade, the church in America was mostly silent. While it may have taken the pro-life movement over a decade, we did eventually find our voice, and I am confident we will never be silenced again. In fact, I thank God that today, our fight continues with perhaps more wind behind our backs than ever before, and with a president in the Oval Office who may turn out to be our most pro-life chief executive of them all. In one year, President Trump has already done more to protect the lives of the unborn than any of his predecessors, and I am confident we can accomplish much more during his time in office.
For those of us who believe that all human life is a gift from God and worthy of protection, our mission will remain clear regardless of the shifting tides of public opinion. I invite you all to join with Shirley and me as we remember the sanctity of all human life, and as we pray fervently that our nation would once-and-for-all end the national tragedy that is abortion.

On this 45th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, thousands of pro-life Americans march in our nation’s capital to declare that human lives matter. Nellie Gray founded The March for Life in Washington, D.C., a year after the Roe v. Wade passage. It’s now the largest pro-life event in the world, according to the event website. The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since 1973 is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, legalized abortion on demand.
The Trump administration is largely pro-life. Vice President Mike Pence uses his faith to guide his political values, which includes standing against abortion.
“It was such an honor and privilege to meet Mr. Vice President Pence and Mrs. Pence and hear their passion for the pro-life movement, as well as being able to share my opinion on why planned parenthood should be defunded and what CCU’s Students for Life’s involvement in the Sock it to Planned Parenthood campaign. I am so proud to be a part of the pro-life generation when we have such a godly pro-life advocate as the vice president.,” says Colorado Christian University student Stephanie Schlabach, from Ohio, who was at the meeting.
The closed-door discussion included conversations with a number of students who talked about what they have endured as they stood for the rights of women and their preborn infants on campuses across the country.
Pence and his wife, Karen, met with students this week who had traveled to D.C. for the march.
