Dennis Prager: School, College, Public Events Shouldn’t Be Canceled Over Coronavirus
Talk show host and writer Dennis Prager says he doesn’t agree that schools, universities and all public events should be closed and canceled over the COVID-19 coronavirus.
“I think kids should continue to go to school,” Prager says. “The irony is, the younger you are, the less likely you are to be affected by the coronavirus, at least in America. And I assume anywhere, it is very rare, if even existent, that kids are dying from the illness. … I have many philosophies of life, but one is to always use reason.
“Reason is a gift, if you will, of nature. I don’t think nature makes reason; I think it’s a gift of God. … That’s why I don’t like panic. … Last year, over 50,000 Americans, according to the CDC, died of the flu. Why was there no panic over that?”
Prager says that he’s even had people call in to his radio show to say fear is stopping them from experiencing great things, such as traveling to Israel. But Prager has visited the country his whole life, he says, and it’s been safe.
However, Christian leaders like Beth Moore are saying another thing. Moore calls Christians’ disregard of warnings against large gatherings a “mistake.”
It would be a mistake for us in Christian circles to disregard the warnings about large gatherings. If the thought is, “We’re the church. We’ll do whatever we please & God will protect us,” He does not protect the proud. He opposes them. We are not snake handlers. We’re servants.
