Minnesota Black Lives Matter Founder Quits After Learning the ‘Ugly Truth’

The founder of the St. Paul, Minnesota, chapter of Black Lives Matter spoke out on the “ugly truth” of a year in leadership of the group in a recent video posted on social media.

In 2015, Rashad Turner led the organization with the hopes of supporting Black families. He quickly learned in his year of leadership, the organization as a whole “had little concern for rebuilding Black families,” he says.

“I believed the organization stood for exactly what the name implies: Black lives do matter,” Turner admits.

As the first to graduate college in his family, Turner grew up learning about the gift and value of education, which drives him to support high quality education for kids like him.

“I want the same success for our children in our communities,” he says. And yet, after leading the BLM group, Turner discovered not only did the group tout false claims to support Black families, “they cared even less about improving the quality of education for students in Minneapolis.”
