Should Christian Families Go See ‘Detective Pikachu’?

Plugged In gave Detective Pikachu a positive review and recommended the film as “sweet” and “charming.” The film—which is expected to compete for No. 1 at the box office this week—centers on a young man teaming up with Pikachu to solve the mystery of his dad’s death. The reviewer notes that there are mild concerns—some occasional language or bathroom humor—but overall rated it three and a half out of five stars for family-friendliness.

Given past controversies surrounding the Pokemon franchise’s appropriateness for Christian families, do you find this surprising? (Plugged In’s parent company, Focus on the Family, has even published this article exploring the franchise’s potentially problematic worldview.)
