Four prominent, outspoken Christians were honored when Time magazine recently released its annual Time100 Next list. The list includes the co-pastor of a prominent church in Los Angeles, an astronaut and two professional athletes—one an NFL star and the other a standout in Major League Baseball.

The Time100 Next List, according to the publication, was launched in 2019 and recognizes the “rising leaders in health, climate, business, sports, the arts and more.”

NASA astronaut Victor J. Glover Jr. made the list. He is part of the Artemis II crew that is scheduled to circle the moon and sail back to earth next year. He once took a Bible and communion cups to the International Space station and is a former fighter pilot who saw action in the Gulf War. Time said that “Glover will be the first person of color to make a lunar journey, and the significance of that is not lost on him.”

Sarah Jakes Roberts and her husband, Touré, are co-pastors of Potter’s House in LA and assistant pastors of Potter’s House in Dallas, led by her father, Bishop T.D. Jakes.

Jalen Hurts led the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl last year after being drafted out of Oklahoma in 2020. He often discusses his faith during interviews and his Instagram bio reads, “In God I Trust.”

In the Time article, former NFL All-Pro quarterback Peyton Manning said of Hurts, “He’s [the] model of how to approach a job.”

Ronald Acuña Jr., an outfielder for the Atlanta Braves, is a four-time all-star and a World Series champion. Like Hurts, he often mentions his faith publicly.

In the Time article, fellow Major Leaguer Miguel Cabrera wrote of Acuña, “I hope God keeps him healthy so he can reach 500 home runs and 3,000 hits.” {eoa}
