Report: Clinton, State Department Aides Skipped Key Training
A new report out Thursday morning states there is “no record” that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton—nor most of her top aides—participated in mandatory ethics training when they came to the State Department.
McClatchy’s Anita Kumar, in an article titled No Record That Clinton, Aides Took Required Ethics Training, reported that State Department records indicate only three of the former secretary of state’s nine top aides took the training required by federal law for new employees. Those records also suggest that seven top aides required to participate in subsequent annual training never took those classes.
The report states no records exist that indicate Clinton herself participated in any of the required training, either.
No records indicate whether Clinton herself took any training.
The documents that were released were done so as a result of a Republican National Committee lawsuit against the State Department after it failed to produce them as part of a Freedom of Information Act demand. But State Department officials say the lack of recordkeeping doesn’t necessarily mean the training didn’t occur—just that it hasn’t been recorded.
Her Republican counterpart’s campaign released a scathing rebuke. In addition, it offered a theory as to why there is no record of ethics training for Clinton and her aides, most of whom now work on the presidential campaign.
“Hillary Clinton and her aides reportedly skipped their ethics training,” the Trump campaign’s national policy director, Stephen Miller, said. “That would make sense since Hillary was planning a criminal enterprise trading government favors for cash.
“As she focused on personal enrichment, the Middle East went up in flames and ISIS exploded onto the globe. Now, all the people who’ve been paying off Hillary for years are funding her campaign.
“Mr. Trump has proposed new ethics reforms to restore honor to our government, while Hillary Clinton is calculating how much money she can make selling the office of the Presidency for profit.”
