So, Wait, There IS a Clinton Foundation Investigation Underway?
So, while the media was led to believe the Department of Justice thwarted an FBI investigation into the Clinton Foundation—and it did—there’s a new report Friday that it has allowed others to proceed.
The Daily Caller, quoting a “senior law enforcement official,” is reporting there are now multiple FBI investigations underway involving potential corruption charges against the Clinton Foundation. According to that official, those investigations are focused on New York City, where the Clinton Foundation is headquartered.
Prosecutorial support will come from various U.S. Attorneys Offices—a major departure from other centralized FBI investigations.
The New York-based probe is being led by Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. Bharara’s prosecutorial aggressiveness has resulted in a large number of convictions of banks, hedge funds and Wall Street insiders.
The official said involvement of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York “would be seen by agents as a positive development as prosecutors there are generally thought to be more aggressive than the career lawyers within the DOJ.”
According to the Washington Post earlier this year, the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation has raised—including campaign contributions for Hillary Clinton—more than $3 billion. Those donations, and the likely influence over U.S. foreign affairs that they bought, have been speculated about for years.
This FBI investigation seems to be aimed at getting to the bottom of that very issue.
