John Kasich

You’ll Never Guess Who John Kasich Voted For

You can say a lot of things about Ohio Gov. John Kasich, but you have to admit he’s a man of his word.

When he signed on the dotted line in August of 2015, saying:

I, John Kasich, affirm that if I do not win the 2016 Republican nomination for president of the United States I will endorse the 2016 Republican presidential nominee regardless of who it is.

I further pledge that I will not seek to run as an independent or write-in candidate nor will I seek or accept the nomination for president of any other party.

Oh, wait. He didn’t.

Instead, in July, as his home state was hosting the Republican National Convention, he made another vow—that he would neither endorse nor vote for Trump as the GOP nominee. And, not surprisingly, he’s stuck this one out.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting Kasich has mailed in his absentee ballot, upon which he wrote in the name of 2008 presidential nominee U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). Effectively, he threw his vote away—and not just symbolically.

In Ohio, write-in candidates must be certified with the state in order for their votes to be counted. McCain is not one of those candidates. Meanwhile, Trump continues to lead the polls in the state with just six days to go.
