The Golden Calf is Bankrupting America

Unbelievers are not responsible for the ruin of this once Christian nation. We – God’s covenant people – are. America is about to learn something that can be learned in no other way: there is no safety in distance from God. The notion that one can abandon God and yet still enjoy prosperity and protection is as much a lie today as it was in the Garden of Eden. Remember God’s outrage to the killing of Abel by his older brother Cain? “What have you done? Your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground” (Genesis 4:10). If this is true, then you can bet that the cries of 55 million babies murdered in their mother’s womb in America is deafening. American leaders turn a blind eye to Planned Parenthood’s selling of body parts from aborted babies. Can we expect that Jehovah God will ignore this and refuse to respond? A nation that allows this savagery and cruelty is a monster created by secularists, a picture of disgrace, and that disgrace is a result of abandoning God for Secularism, the trust in man. America can likely weather one of the most lawless presidential administrations in U.S. history. Whether the land of liberty can survive a people who would elect, and then reelect, President Barack Hussein Obama, that is the larger question. Secularism’s eradication of a Biblically based culture has consequences. As Bible scholar John Oswalt writes:

The result of their [Christians] misplaced dependence will be to be ruled by those who are, figuratively speaking, children. To make great men the source of a nation’s greatness is always to end up with a dearth of great men. Unless the greatness comes from within the community itself, a condition which is ultimately the result of trust in God, no great leaders will rise from it. Instead, the leaders will merely reflect the spiritual poverty of the community.

Impotent Democrat leadership, followed by wimpy Republican leadership, has placed our freedoms at risk. This seems to be as good a time as any to comment on Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker John Boehner, who run as principled conservatives in order to be elected to public office, only to then govern as Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi clones. Americans believed that by entrusting control of the legislative branch to Messrs. McConnell and Boehner in 2014, that illegal immigration, sanctuary cities, ObamaCare, and $18 trillion worth of debt piled on our children would be defied. Unfunded liabilities of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid now exceed $106 trillion. Every man, woman and child in America owes $300,000 – an amount that exceeds the combined value of every U.S. bank account, stock certificate, building, and piece of personal or public property. Let’s be plainspoken. Mr. McConnell and Mr. Boehner are not up to the job. “The leaders may posture like great men but they are children,” Oswalt writes. “When a nation permits its rulers to believe that they rule in their own right and because of their own competence, that nation brings upon itself the official graft, self-serving, and irresponsibility that result. Then, when the government begins to collapse, all types of authority fall into contempt and the natural inclinations of fallen human beings are allowed to run free. The result is not some sort of hierarchy but an anarchy, where all devour each other alike.” The Bible instructs that God’s loyalty and fidelity that guards the nation is dependent on seeking virtue. A nation’s real greatness consists not in its military conquests, not in its art and culture, and not in its wealth, but in its obedience to the requirements of justice, piety, and righteousness. What God opposes is human arrogance and pride. The Church’s future is secure, but the question to be answered by America’s pastors and pews is this: Will we be part of the spiritual resurrection of America, or will we forfeit our freedom? If we continue down the road established by secularists in the last century, then it is clear that the Land of Liberty will be destroyed, and we will lose our independence. Leaders with human discernment, rather than dependency on the Divine, lead the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of government in America. And as a result, America is being taken apart brick-by-brick. Let’s get to the meat of the problem: homosexuals, abortionists, and secularists, whatever their outward piety, actually think that they know more than God does. They have no interest in understanding God, but in airing their own opinions. They are defying Him to His face, worshiping the Golden Calf of Secularism. If the largest denomination of God’s currency is faith, then we need a Gideon or Rahab the Harlot to stand.
