Impromptu Family Food Drive: ‘It Was Truly a Miracle’
While this daddy-daughter duo may bless the ears of internet listeners with their lilting duets on their YouTube page, “Mat and Savanna Shaw,” their Utah community was recently blessed by their impromptu act of extraordinary generosity.
The family saw a need in their town of Kaysville, Utah, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. With a following of over 550 thousand subscribers on their YouTube page alone, the Shaws used their online influence to organize a food drive, partnering with the Utah food bank, bringing hope and kindness in this holiday season.
The food drive blessed families with more than 10,000 meals. “It was nothing short of a miracle, and truly embodied the Christmas spirit of ‘Peace on earth, good will to men,'” the family’s message at the end of the video reads.
Mat and Savanna Shaw started recording duets and posting them on social media in the beginning of March 2020 after Savanna’s choir practice was canceled amid concerns of coronavirus, Fox 13 News reports.
The Shaws’ desire to spread hope at the beginning of this adventure still rings true to this day.
“I think the only thing more contagious than a virus is hope,” Mat also told Fox 13 News. “So, we’re hoping to just do our little part in the world to help spread some hope.”
The soundtrack to this miraculous fulfilling of God’s command to feed the hungry (see Matt. 25:31-40) is from their newest album, Merry Little Christmas. The lyrics remind listeners of the sovereign nature of generosity: “God is not dead nor doth He sleep/ The wrong shall fail/ The right prevail/ With peace on earth/ good will to men.”
The Shaws are not the only family giving to those in need during this holiday season. The World Food Programme (2020 Nobel Peace Prize winner), Gospel for Asia and countless other organizations like them are working to end the hunger crisis in America and worldwide.
Consider partnering with resources like Feeding America or Charisma’s own nonprofit, Christian Life Missions, to see how God can use you to bless others in this Christmas season.
