Why Book of Isaiah Doesn’t Actually Describe Satan’s Fall

Dr. Peter Gentry, an author and professor of Old Testament interpretation, says Isaiah 14:12-17 is not referring to the fall of Satan, contrary to popular belief. Rather, he says, this passage is referencing the fall of Babylon.

“Lucifer is simply a Latin word that means ‘light bearer’ and is a reference to the morning star,” Gentry says. “So Lucifer is not a personal name; it’s a descriptive title. It comes from the Septuagint, which in turn comes from the Hebrew text. Isaiah is mocking the king of Babylon.”
